Presentation of the artist : Alexandre Bonnot
Born in the Paris region, Alexandre Bonot trained in an arts school in Paris, in a visual communication school. Once he graduated, he joined a communications agency specializing in the creation of film posters, he moved to Lyon in 2021.
Contemporary painter, he mixes street art and popular culture. His artistic signature is based on representations of skulls inspired by famous characters who marked his childhood, adolescence and adult life.
He likes to represent mythical figures from television, comics, video games and music, developing a fascination for collective memory. His works question nostalgia while confronting the viewer with the fragility of existence, symbolized by the omnipresence of skulls.
Each canvas represents one or more cult characters – cartoon heroes, pop culture icons or historical figures – revisited in the form of a modern vanitas. Its style and technique are varied such as the use of grease pencils, oil, charcoal, collage, acrylic, … accumulation in general!
Her mantra: « We are all made of memories. And sometimes, it’s by looking at the end that we understand the beginning better. »
